Flowers
ARTWORK
Growing up in Holland I would pass the tulip fields bicycling to town. You are always surrounded by flowers. Living in New York City these vivid images came back to me. I turned to nature and drew inspiration from the traditional flower paintings that are so prevalent in many works from the Dutch golden age of painting. The images that I grew up with from Jan Bruegel, Ambrosius Bosschaert, Rachel Ruysch and others all the way up to Van Gogh’s Irisis are ingrained in me. In this body of work I explore this traditional subject matter and inject it with a new and fresh feel.
